Host Family
I have not yet visited my host family but I did see them the other day in the mall....they were on TV. Apparently two years ago when my host mom told me she would sell 50 houses, she wasn't kidding. They have opened a new real estate complex with Thai style houses that are a couple million baht each (which is a couple hundred thousand dollars...like buying an American house on a Thai salary). When I was in the mall the other day I saw their advertisements for the Laguna homes and there my host mom and dad were, on TV. They were doing interviews about their new housing projects. I was stunned to see them there. So I have not yet called them because its a little intimidating knowing how big their business has grown and how busy they have become. I'll call them soon though.
In Thailand in general, many things re miscommunicated and it often becomes the norm. However, there was a BIG miscommunication about my classes this Thursday. For my English 103 course schedule, we have a holiday. On Thursdays I teach English 203 but on Monday I told them it was a holiday because we did not have 103 classes. I found out just this morning that we have 203 but not 103 courses. Oops. I'll go to class tomorrow but I don't think anyone will be there. I will have to have a make-up class next week. That stinks for the students as much as for myself.
Other good news though. I got another interview for teaching at Chiang Mai University Language Institute. Therefore, I might get a little extra dough teaching some night courses there part-time. More money is always a good thing.
