Teaching Monks

Once again forgive me for not posting in such a long time. I have found it extremely difficult to find time to go on the computer. We have a full day and then I spend time with my host family, eat dinner, shower, read, and go to bed.

As of right now I have started my internship teaching Buddhists Monks. So far it has been one of the coolest things I have ever done. We teach analytical reading, have conversations about Chrsitianity and Buddhism, and already I have learned so much about Thai culture and American culture just by these discussions. We are official teachers there and are called teacher or by our nicknames. The monks gave me a nickname : Kuhn Ploy which means precious jewel or sapphire or beautiful sto9ne or soemthing like that. I get differnt meanings all the time.

I got to teach a dance class to the children at the orphanage on Tuesday. I showed up for that internship and he said the floor and mirrors were ready and I would be teaching at 3 o'clock so me and my friendf Kirsten were just winging it. I'll be doing that every Tuesday.

This friday is the Miss Flower blooms contest which I will be in I think. There are 6 or 7 girls from our group who are doing it. I figure I won't win because I'm just doing it because as a contestant you get to be pampered for free. I am all for that.

We started our Thai history class and so far it is absolutely boring. Everytime I read the dumb text i fall asleep and for thos eof you who know me, I love history and this is just awful. The man who wrote the book was not thinking of trying to keep the interest of tired college students.

Our lectures have not been any better.

I'm hoping today will be a new day and it won't be so bad. When i teach the mnonks I find that I really love to teach. Its amazing when you see that they understand the text and are excited because of that understanding. I don't think I could teach my whole life but I love doing it every now and then.

Well over the weekend my family opened up a country club so we didn't really go anywhere but swimming nd such. However I ate dinner at the Mandarin oriental (google it) and stayed at the hotel that the manager of the oriental owns. Brittany's host family invited my to come and the food was amazing. Then we had a tour of this hotel and it has its own rice field and water buffalo! Each villa has its own pool and only one bed room and the ceheapest room is 850.00 a night. It goes up to 6,000.00 / night. It was basically amazing and I absolutely loved it.

love you all
time for death class
Amy
