July 4th (3rd) Celebration: US Consulate
On July 3rd the American teachers were able to go to the July 4th celebration at the US Consulate. They had all American food like hot dogs, burgers, subway, starbucks, and not so American that all Americans love like pizza, ice cream, sodas, beers including Corona (which I thought did not exist in Thailand).
They had door prizes including airline tickets, hotel stays, restaurant certificates, etc. We paid about $1.85 to get in and were able to win something.
Due to the fact that it was the 4th of July, we wanted to get hot dogs, fries, and milkshakes. However, one reason Thailand will probably never be a world power is because most of the world runs on Western time, but Thailand runs on Thai time. We waited in line for 30-40 minutes. All I wanted was one measly hotdog....
Despite the long wait, I had some good fortune. My raffle number was called and I won a free two night stay at the Chiang Mai Chedi hotel. Breakfast is included and its a Deluxe room for two people so I can bring a friend. I'm not sure who I will bring yet but staying at a 5 star hotel with free food is not very fun by yourself. http://www.chiangmai.bangkok.com/chedi/
They even had fireworks. It was not exactly the safest show. I thought the consulate might set on fire. But we all left without 3rd degree burns and it was really fun.
After all the excitement. I got a really bad fever, chills, muscles aches, etc and ended up calling in the next day. Yesterday I went to the hospital to get some medicine for a virus because my fever didn't break for 2 days. Today I feel better which is always good.
