My trip up Doi Suthep

Well we just had a big Buddhist holiday in Thailand. People gather around 6pm to hike up Doi Suthep which has a temple at the top. They actually walk up the road because it is nighttime and it takes about 4 hours to get to the top. Then you walk around the temple three times and come back down.

My friend Sarah and I decided to go. We hung out at a booth our friends were running until 12am. Then we went to the top on a taxi (my knee is still really bad) and got there after 1am. Then we walked around. People were dirnking a lot, sleeping, setting up picnic sites, etc. It was organized mass chaos basically. We had seen enough so we decided to go back down. It was about 3 am by this time.

However, the taxis stopped running and so we had to start walking. Our friends didn't want me to walk a lot because my knee really is bad. So I sat on a gaurdrail and my friend sarah slept with her little Thai dog. Thai people kept walking by saying "oh hello, are you sleeping?" and then they would laugh hysterically like it was the biggest joke ever.

We finally convinced someone to drive us a little way in their truck. Then when we stopped, Sarah and I ran for two free spots on a taxi because by this point, around 4am, it was every woman for herself. When we finally got down, we met up with our friends and had to find another taxi which was another adventure because they were all full.

By 6 am I got back to my apartment. It was the best holiday ever. We never knew what to expect and it was like a get-away before time runs out story.

I loved it. The next day I slept until 2pm :)
