My Village Stay
So I have not been able to write because where we are there is no internet. Actually there are Karen people, dogs, red dirt roads, and spiders that are actually the size of my palm and thick too. This is the village called Musikee. We interview Karen people in their homes and work on various projects to write a paper at the end of it. It was quiet and the people are friendly although a little harder to talk to because they are so shy. The roads are dusty but a beautiful red and there are rice paddies and water buffalo. Its really cool. We don't have flushing toilets and we shower out of a bucket or in a lake. Everything is dusty but the food is awesome. I'm really loving it so far but I did something bad....
I broke the bathroom wall. SO it was early and there is a house full of about 17 girls. You can hear everything when any one moves, sneezes, whispers, etc. i wake up early to go walking unfortunately for those who like to sleep in. Well one morning I was in the bathroom finishing a bucket shower which is extremely frigid and I happened to put my foot ont he tiled wall. CRASH!!!! Have you ever dropped a pile of about 20 dishes on a cement floor? If you have thats what this sounded like. I'm in the corner of the bathroom when the wall of tile comes crashing down. Everyone in the village heard it. The guys who are on the other side were like "that was you?" It was bad and all I could do was stand there cold and alone and say "oops that was bad" I thought my ear drums shattered. However, in light of all this it was still humorous and I was glad I was the one who did it because I always like to have good stories. So now I am known as the girl who broke the wall. The tile was ten years old and loose but I was the one who bumped it.
Now we are on a 4 day break for Song Kran. that means war in thai. Its really an amazing thing and could never happen int he US because of all the legal ties and law suits that would occur. Its the world's largest water fight. People soak everyone. I wear my swim suit under my clothes because there is no way anyone could stay dry for a day. The Thai people especially love to soak the foreigners because they can. On the 5 hour ride down from the village we sit in the back of trucks. Every couple of miles someone would slosh the car with water and we were inevitable soaked regardless of what we did. Even coming to this internet cafe there are people outside with hoses who sprayed us. Always carry your money and camera in a zip lock bag. Its alot of fun and evenm though I am going to be wet for 4 days I'll enjoy it. The cool thing is even monks get sloshed and they are a hugely repsected figure within the society.
You can google it if you want but I have a feeling that there are probably alot of inappropiate pictures because people do crazy things and drink much more than they should.
Congrats Kerry-Lee and Ben. I heard about the baby! Yeah! I love cousins!
Take photos for me of the wedding.
