The broken boat

Well shawn, I'm glad you checked it out....it was really weird.

So you know how you always think that when you go off on your own in a strange place something bad is bound to happen. You know its you and its always like a cruel joke. For example, if for once I go on an elephant it just happens that the one elephant in the whole group that goes crazy is mine. Its hypothetical, but I am talking about situations like that.

So we finished our group tour of the summer palace early and had a free afternoon. After walking around for a while, some of us decided to go back. We were nervous because its only our second day here so we are not familiar with the area nor with how things work. In Chiang Mai we were pros, here we are stupid tourists.

So we follow our professor's vague directions and some how manuever our way to find the taxi boat. The taxi boat takes you down the river to different gates or stops. They are cooler temperature-wise, more fun, and cheaper. It cost about 5 cents to take one. So we were really proud of ourselves for finding our way back without getting lost first of all and then we were even prouder because we got on the right boat. Two gold stars in one afternoon. Yes!

Well anyways we'rte goofing off and riding our awesome boat that we found all by ourselves, when tragedy hits. or actually I think the motor hit something because there was a huge bang andf then it sounded iffy...

I of course was being negative thinking the boat would blow up and my camera would get ruined in the water or the engine would break down and we would have to swim for shore and my camera would still get ruined in the water. Then I got myself to think positive...We're fine, we're still moving, the engine's not broken, yadda yadda yadda...

The it died. The engine sounded awful and of all the taxi boats that could of broke, this one had to. Of all the ones we could have gotten on, we had to get on this one.

So the engine sound slike ti will explode so the driver stopped trying to turn it on. We are floating helplessly and careening towards the dock where I am worried that we will crash and sink and my camera will get ruined.

The crew is shouting and they had to call another boat over to literally bump us to safety. Then the crew lady starts yelling at us when we try to get off so me and my friends did not know whether to stay on and wait or get on the dock. But apparently our confused faces made us look like stupid American girls which of course we all are apparently so a Swedish girl says in a snooty tone, "The boat is broken" as if we didn't already know that...that part was really funny.

So we were rescued and our boat was dragged off to be burned or something and after traveling for over an hour on a trip that should take 15 mintues we arrived safely back to our hotel.

I thought it was hilarious. Of all the boats, it would be ours.

I'm glad the monkey hotel was a hit. The europeans mostly hate us when we say we are American but usually the swedes are nice.
